And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [His] purpose.
Romans 8:28

It is important that we get behind our government and our military and give them our full support to do whatever it takes to fight terrorism.  The criminals who perpetrated these heinous crimes, and the nations that supported them need to be brought to justice. But let us not lose site of the fact that this war is both physical and spiritual.  Let's not neglect the all important spiritual aspects of the battle.  Repentance and prayer should be our first and most important defense.  The military, political and other secular options should not be solely relied upon to solve this problem.  Nor should they ever be considered a replacement for repentance and prayer.

We have no better protector than Almighty God, but we should not expect His protection when as a nation we mock Him and turn our backs on him unceasingly (in general; there are obviously exceptions to this).  We also should not deceive ourselves into believing that He's going to let us get away with behaving like this forever without doing something to chastise us for it.

And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?  But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected [us], and we gave [them] reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
Hebrews 12:5-9

It is our family's sincere hope and prayer that this nation will use this time of tribulation as an opportunity to reflect on how far we have fallen from God as a nation, and what steps we can take to get ourselves back on track.  It is also a time for Christians to stand up and fight for the truth in large numbers in whatever way they are called by God to do so.  Don't let uninformed people like those who are attacking Rev. Falwell stop you.  We are to love them and pray for them and press on.  They and the rest of society will never know the truth if we allow them to silence us into not speaking it.

We also need to be praying for our government leaders, those involved in this battle on the home front, and our service men and women who are placing their lives at risk, and spending many months away from their families to protect us.  Concerning our military men and women, pray not only that God will keep them safe, but that He will use these events to bring many of them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, their Creator and Savior (click here to read about examples of this happening in Iraq through miracles He has performed to save the lives of American Marines).  Pray too for our pastors and church leaders that they will have the wisdom and courage to speak the truth and to properly guide their flocks in these difficult times.
