Marian apparition's claim - Mary continues the work of Atoning for our Sins
(In other words, Jesus's death and resurrection only partially atoned or paid for our sins)
In some of the Marian apparitions, Mary claims that she is Atoning for our Sins for us. Actual quotes from Marian apparitions appear below. Following the Marian quotes are Bible verses from both the Catholic and Protestant King James Bibles that deal with the same topic.
Marian Apparition Quotes
Quote: For a long time I have suffered for you; if I do not want my son to abandon you, I am forced to pray to him myself without ceasing. You pay no heed. However much you would do, you could never recompense the pain I have taken for you. Apparition: LaSalette, France Status: Fully approved by the Catholic church Source: Sandra L. Zimdars-Swartz, Encountering Mary, New York, Avon Books, 1991, p. 30. Apparition of Mary in LaSalette, France. Message of Sept. 19, 1846.
Quote: I boldly assert that His suffering became my suffering, because His heart was mine. And just as Adam and Eve sold the world for an apple, so in a certain sense my Son and I redeemed the world with one heart… Apparition: Message to St. Bridget of Sweden Status: Fully approved by the Catholic church Source: Petrisko, Call of the Ages, p. 247. Message to St. Bridget of Sweden, 14th century.

Quote: I love you even when you are far away from me and my Son. I ask you not to allow my heart to shed tears of blood because of the souls who are being lost through sin. Apparition: Medjugorje Status: Not officially church approved, but it is endorsed by dozens of Cardinals, Bishops, and the Pope himself. Related Bible Verses about Jesus
These Marian apparitions claim that Mary has attributes that the Bible says only Jesus (and in some cases the Holy Spirit) has. Consider the Bible verses below from both the Protestant King James and Catholic New American Bible's. In both cases they directly contradict the apparition claims. See this link for a list of 20 claims the Marian apparitions make about Mary that are directly contradicted by the Bible. Also note that nowhere in the Bible does God say that Mary has any of these traits. Additionally, God specifically warned us that these apparitions would be commonplace in the last days, and that their purpose would be to deceive us. For more information on that, see clips numbers 6, 7 and 8 of the Messages From Heaven videotape.
Protestant King James Version (KJV) Bible Catholic New American Bible (NAB)
Hebrews 10:12-18 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Hebrews 10:12-18 But this one offered one sacrifice for sins, and took his seat forever at the right hand of God; now he waits until his enemies are made his footstool. For by one offering he has made perfect forever those who are being consecrated. The holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying: "This is the covenant I will establish with them after those days, says the Lord: 'I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them upon their minds,'" he also says: "Their sins and their evildoing I will remember no more." Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer offering for sin.
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life in the spirit.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our offenses, crushed for our sins, Upon him was the chastisement that makes us whole, by his stripes we were healed.
Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD, this is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to idols.
The sixth video clip from the English version of the video is titled (on our web site) "Comparing messages from the Marian apparitions to the Bible". In that clip, a comparison is made between the characteristics the Marian apparitions claim for themselves against the Bible. Keep in mind that with the exception of the Medjugorje apparitions, only Catholic church and Bishop approved messages were considered in this video.
