Moreover it is required in
stewards, that a man be found faithful. Will a man rob God? Yet ye
have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and
offerings. Ye [are] cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, [even]
this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that
there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the
LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour
you out a blessing, that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to
receive it]. Charge them that are rich in this
world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but
in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; No man can serve two masters: for
either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold
to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Woe unto them that call
evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for
darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto
[them that are] wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own
sight!
Traitors, heady, high --
minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, Causing children to stumble in their faith And whosoever shall offend
one of [these] little ones that believe in me, it is better for him
that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the
sea.
Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever
things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things
[are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be]
any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.
Be ye not unequally yoked
together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with
unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
For this cause God gave them up
unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use
into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving
the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another;
men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in
themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.
Responsibility of Christians to take a stand for God
And whosoever doth not
bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day
whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that
[were] on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in
whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the
LORD. Large crowds were
traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: "If anyone
comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and
children, his brothers and sisters - yes, even his own life - he
cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and
follow me cannot be my disciple.
And unto the angel of the
church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the
faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I
know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert
cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor
hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich,
and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not
that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest
be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and [that]
the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with
eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and
chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
