Bad Customer Service
1. Ulocate.com product that gives the Mapquest Find Me product its GPS capabilities 2. Verizon Wireless Messaging Services - Two defective pagers in a row and they're sticking us for the full bill for a pager they know no longer works.

Good Customer ServiceAs much as we'd like to list some companies in this category, we don't have any yet that we feel comfortable listing. Most of the companies we've done business with have done an average or acceptable job most of the time. However, all have had at least one incident of really bad service that they did not properly remedy. We are looking forward to finding a company to post in this section that is deserving of our Good Customer Service rating. Here's what we're looking for:
Reasonable prices.
Courteous service and support staff.
A willingness to go the extra mile to make us feel good about doing business with them when those occasional situations occur where they've done something wrong. In other words, how a company recovers from mistakes they make speaks volumes about their true commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Returning phone calls in a prompt and timely manner.
Protecting our privacy by being paranoid about the way they handle our personal information such as social security numbers, phone number, etc.
Doing what they say they will do, when they say they will do it.
A firm commitment to providing high quality products and services.
A willingness to take responsibility for the products and services provided to us by vendors they work with. An example of this not being done would be when we had the problem with our Verizon pagers. The customer service manger at one point in my conversation with him told me to contact Motorola (the pager manufacturer) about the problem. A company committed to providing excellent customer service would never try to pass the buck like that. They'd assume full responsibility for whatever product or service they sold us, regardless of whether it came directly from them or from a third party vendor.
A consistent pattern of excellence in service and products.
Because this is a family run web site, we have the opportunity to put off-topic links on our site that may be of interest to others. In this case, we would like to share our experiences of both good and bad customer service from companies we have done business with. Companies that make our good service list are those that have consistently performed at a very high level. Companies that make our bad service list are those that provided very disappointing products and/or services, even after we gave them multiple chances to do the right thing. In the case of the bad service companies, we share them with you not in a spirit of revenge, but because it is appropriate to warn others so that they can avoid the same problems we experienced.
