On Sunday, March 10, 2002, Dr. Patrick Young was interviewed by the British BBC. So was Hugh Miller of CRSEF, an Columbus Based creation science research group (www.worldbydesign.org). One other Intelligent Design proponent, and three evolutionists were also interviewed. They won't let us put a copy of the program on this web site. However, it aired live on March 12 at about 5:40 PM EST on BBC radio channel 4.  After listening to the story, Dr. Young had these comments about it:

It is obvious the BBC in general is pro-evolution. Their continuous portrayal of this debate as a religious one leaves little room for any other interpretation.

The overall program by Paul Moss resulted in 2 creationists, 1 intelligent design and 1 evolutionist as participants. It is difficult to argue with the balance. From my perspective, the amount of time spent with each interviewee and their statements were also balanced.

Some may have difficulty with the church music being played in the beginning of my portion of the interview. I really don't. I have no problem with being portrayed as a religious man who goes to church on Sunday. He did make statements and used quotations to promote me as a scientist.

My primary problem with the interview was his interjections about George Bush, Republicans, conservatism, homosexuality, etc. which are off the subject and inappropriate. The intent was only to inflame certain portions of the British audience and added nothing to the content of the program.

I would have preferred more depth in all the interviews. There were several more quotations of mine he could have used to add impact.

He spent too much time using the minister's voice and the covert agenda mentioned in the previous paragraph. We had no previous agreement to use the minister's voice or go off subject like that.

On March 11, the BBC did a written report about the ID debate in Ohio.  Dr. Young was not interviewed for this article.  It can be viewed at this link:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/americas/newsid_1866000/1866476.stm (link is no longer active).

Note that the previous written article is filled with gross distortions of the facts.  Read that article, then see our Discerning Media Bias/Errors link to see what they got wrong.
