The Secular Media's assault on Biblical Truths

Reporters, editors, op-ed authors and media outlet owners who participate in the spreading of anti-Biblical messages are doing Satan's bidding, whether they realize it or not. Not all members of the media are involved in these activities, but most are. Here are a few of the more common examples of issues the secular media addresses (or fails to address) that supports Satan's cause, and that often directly challenge the authority and accuracy of God's Holy Word, the Bible:

  • promoting evolutionism in its various forms

  • promoting homosexuality

  • attacking Biblical corporal discipline

  • promoting abortion

  • a near complete absence of the conservative Christian view on any issue

  • promoting the ACLU's attempts to eliminate all references to God in the public arena

  • promoting false religions (i.e. in the Faith and Values sections of newspapers)

  • promoting the twisted Separation of Church and State that our founding fathers never intended to occur.

  • Endorsing candidates who can't pass God's litmus test for Biblical leadership.

  • Attacking or ignoring candidates who can pass this test.

Claims of innocence

Many of these reporters, op-ed authors and editors would dismiss the charge that they are doing Satan's work. They would argue:

  • Their reporting or op-ed articles are religiously neutral, or

  • They don't worship Satan or

  • They're basically good people who are no worse than anyone else.  Some may even be very involved in unselfish humanitarian efforts to help others.

However, there are five major problems with those arguments.

1.  Satan owns everyone until they are spiritually reborn

Everyone (except Jesus) who has ever been born, or who ever will be born is owned by Satan at birth. Until they have been spiritually regenerated by the Holy Spirit through accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior, they are under Satan's power like it or not.  If they never accept Jesus's gift of salvation, they will spend all of eternity in Hell with Satan.

To open their eyes, [and] to turn [them] from darkness to light, and [from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Acts 26:18

In some cases, because their hearts are so hardened against God, God has intentionally brought an even greater delusion upon some of them.

[Even him], whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
2 Thessalonians 2:9-12  (KJV)

There are a few high priests of the religion of Evolutionism who have in the past written several pro-evolutionism articles that the Columbus Dispatch, for instance, cheerfully prints. Except for an occasional token letter to the editor, they are usually published without an opposing view.  Given the way some of these authors so vigorously defend the lies of evolutionism, one can't help but to wonder if some of them may be the local poster boys for these particular verses in 2 Thessalonians. Those who choose to believe the lies about evolutionism instead of God's truths in the Bible won't be able to claim ignorance when they stand before our Creator on Judgment Day. God gave us very specific warnings about evolutionism. He also spoke unambiguously about what He intends to do with people who were responsible for causing children to stumble in their faith as so many science teachers who teach evolutionism have done.

2.  No neutral ground exists

Who can forget president George Bush's bold statement after the events of 9/11 that "If you're not with us, you're against us".  As memorable as that statement was, it wasn't a George Bush original.  Our Creator told us essentially the same thing about our relationship with Him back in 61 AD in the Biblical book of Acts. God tells us we are either working for Him in his efforts to gather His harvest (of Christians), or are working against Him. According to God Himself, there is no neutral ground.

He that is not with me is against me
: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
Luke 11:23

3.  Media is often in conflict with God's Word, the Bible

Much of the reporting today, and many op-ed articles directly conflict with God's Word (like the examples above).  Those who engage in or promote this kind of journalism sometimes will claim to be Christians.  Maybe they are, maybe they aren't.  What is certain is that when they claim that the Bible supports their positions, or that it at least does not contradict them, they are often wrong.  Examine their Bible interpretation closely and you'll discover that in many cases, they are a) quoting liberal clergy, b) engaging in eisegesis instead of exegesis or c) they haven't made any real effort to try to interpret correctly or d) aren't real Christians.

4.  Hidden agendas

Some reporters are simply lying when they claim to be religiously neutral. This is also true of some science teachers who teach evolutionism.  See the Hidden Agendas section of our Media Bias link for some evidence and examples.  See How Religiously Neutral are the Anti-Creationist Organizations for more information about the hidden agendas of some scientific organizations.

5.  Good works may be "filthy rags"

There is a widespread belief among people who don't know what God really has to say about doing good works that God is pleased with all of our good works.  Here's what God Himself tells us about good works that are done by non-Christians:

But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.  Isaiah 64:6

What this verse essentially means is that our perceived righteousness and good works are like "filthy rags" to God if what we do is not being done in obedience to God, and for His glory.  It's sort of like a son telling his Father, "Dad I want nothing to do with you, but aren't you proud of what I have achieved"?  Those in the media are no exception.  If what they are doing is not being done with the express purpose of bringing glory to God, and they are not real Bible believing Christians, there is a real possibility that God is viewing literally all of their 'good works' as "filthy rags".

Only one path leads to heaven

Along these same lines, many misguided people believe that if they do a lot of good works and are basically good people that they'll go to Heaven.  God also makes it abundantly clear that there is virtually no way anyone can escape Hell and enter into Heaven unless they have placed their faith, trust and hope in Jesus ChristAll other paths, including trying to earn your way to heaven through good works, lead to eternal damnation and destruction:

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;  1 Timothy 2:5
(On a related note, this verse and similar ones to it clearly eliminate any possibility that the Virgin Mary is a mediator for us. See footnote 1 below for more information about why the alleged Marian apparitions are demonic deceptions).

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:44

Conclusion

We encourage all of the members of the media to give serious thought to the role they have in society, and to the opportunities they may have to bring glory to their God and Creator.  We encourage those who listen, watch and read secular media reports and stories to be very discerning, and to base that discernment on scriptures.  Most of the secular media today is under Satan's control and it is vital to understand that to avoid being deceived by them.  The same thing can be said of the secular public education system.

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Acts 17:11

Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that [were]
on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house,
we will serve the LORD.
Joshua 24:14-15
